48 Hour Films!

Crumbs from Jacob Streilein on Vimeo.

The theme this year was 'duck'! Thanks to Tony, of course. I made this one in flash and after effects. It was fun. There are a bunch of really awesome films though everybody should search the internet for them.

Jennifer drawings

I didn't do very many drawings today but here are a few anyway. I wish the scans could get the hot pink hair right. Oh well.

Calarts is back in session! 4th year begins. I went in to life drawing cause i haven't had a lot of time to do that recently. Got some more photo paper to draw on, as well!

Oil Paints

So my friend Nikki was kind enough to lend me her oil paint for the painting class this semester. I was afraid they would be too official or scary or something but I ended up enjoying them. I really like that you can adjust a color once you place it on the page, and it allows for some subtle gradients and such that are more difficult for me with watercolors. Plus everything can be really soft.

This was one half of a two week pose. I didn't manage to get to that  third guy, but the others are okay.

My Third Year Film!

Punctuwool from Jacob Streilein on Vimeo.

I animated this with TVP and some traditional paper. I colored the animation in TVP and the backgrounds in photoshop. Composited in in after effects. I'll see if I have any visdev for it that I can post as well,  but a lot of it is in my portfolio already.

Portfolio Day!

Had an exhausting portfolio day today. Here is the work I showed! I'll try and put a demo reel up, but maybe I'll wait til my film is done and there are more shots to use.

Check it out here: Jacob's 2013 Portfolio

Watercolor studies

Painted outside a couple days ago. It was fun, these are each pretty small. I struggled with the sky colors a lot for some reason. Its hard to get the feeling of the sky being a bright light while maintaining its deep color.

We were supposed to design a character based on a piece of music this week. I've been listening to Outkast's Aquemeni album a lot recently, so I went with the song "Return of the G. I will fix this drawing later but I'd like to do some more of it since I only had time to do one today. Its hard to design when you draw for your film for so long...

I tried to fix the first pose and then make an attempt at a second one. The weight on the chain still wasn't great, and the second drawing had less appealing shapes.

Here are me third and second passes at each drawing. I feel better about them, but they could always be better, obviously.

Some character design!

The helicopter shepherd from my film this year! Been trying to work on paper for the film so far. But here are some drawings that I did for character design this week.

Watercolors again!

I've been trying out oils this semester, but here is the last water color figure I did several weeks ago in painting class. I like parts of it, but I am still trying to figure out planes and color shifts in relation to each other. Painting is hard.
